Cyber-environmentalists said Friday 80 countries have joined the World Cleanup 2012 campaign which will see volunteers across the globe use the Internet to target illegal trash dumps for cleanup.

“There’s 100 million tons of illegal garbage lying around the world. Waste is everywhere – in cities, beaches, oceans, forests. To change this we have to come together and create a real global change.

In 2012, a series of cleanups will sweep over the globe, touching all continents and bringing together millions of people who will be cleaning up their homes.”

World Clean Up 2012 will consist of separate one-day cleanup actions, carried out country-wide or city-wide in participating countries between 24th of March 2012 and 25th of September 2012.

“World that is free of waste is possible. The team of World Cleanup 2012 invites all the people and countries who wish to be a part of these Olympic Games for the clean world…”
