The Obama administration on Tuesday pulled back its plan to sell new oil and gas leases off the southeast U.S. coast, ceding to environmental concerns and continuing a trend among federal agencies to slow fossil fuels development in an era of climate change. Plastic-eating bacteria could help make trash disappear

Scientists identified a new species of bacteria, that could almost completely break down a thin film of PET after six weeks at a temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius). The bacterium is the first strain having a potential to degrade PET completely into carbon dioxide and water.

Carpayo is on the receiving end of waste and dumps from Lima and it gets about 2.8 kilos of trash per square meter. In the latest clean-up drive, 60 tons of trash were collected in three hours.
