Northeast braces against terrifying megastorm

Tens of thousands of people were ordered to evacuate coastal areas Sunday as big cities and small towns across the Northeast buttoned up against the onslaught of a superstorm threatening some 50 million people along the most heavily populated corridor in the nation.

Magnitude 7.7 quake strikes off Canadian coast

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the west coast of Canada; the National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas of British Columbia, southern Alaska and Hawaii, but later canceled it for the first two and downgraded it to an advisory for Hawaii.
